The Scout Movement began in 1907 when a British Army Lieutenant General,Robert Baden-Powell held the first ever scout encampment. This was held at Brownsea Island in England. Baden-Powell wrote the principles of Scouting in Scouting for Boys in 1908 at London, based on his earlier military books with the support of Frederick Russell Burnham , Seton of the Woodcraft Indians, Smith of the Boys' Brigade, and his publisher Pearson. During the middle of the 20th century, the movement grew to encompass three major age groups which were known as Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Rover Scout.
The Scout Movement practices many different program that teaches stuff you may not learn in school. This include practical outdoor activities which included camping,gadget-making,hiking,backpacking and other similar activities. One Characteristic that highlights someone as a Scout is their Uniform. It is as an identity which differ ones from other.A Scout Uniform differ from one country to another as the scout uniform is influenced by a country culture. In Brunei Darussalam,A Scout uniform would have a scarf, songkok,a long sleeve shirt,MIB pants,a black belt, black socks and black shoes.
In 2007,Scouting Member had reached over 38 million members in 216 countries.Which had first started in two patrols led by two patrol leaders supervised by Robert-Baden Powell on Brownsea Island in London grew to a movement which later grew to an organization know to worldwide till this day. This has shown to us,how effective or how beneficial is the scouting movement to our daily lifestyle as it teaches us to be more disciplined and organised. Not just thus it teaches us on how to survive in the forest but to our daily modern lifestyle.
Once every four year,A World Scout Jamboree would be held in different locations.
Jamboree is considered an Americanism which refers to a joyful, noisy gathering. This is usually held to strengthen bonds between scouts from all around the world thus, sharing experience of scout activities that have been done to their members that can be share to other people.Unlike other organization,Scouts is not just about doing hard work, being yelled at and tiring yourself. But it is something you do for fun as a living. As some scout says, scouts is the way of life. Over the pass few years,as it has become more modern.Jamborees On The Air and Jamborees On The Internet have been introduced. It is where a group of scouts all over the world would communicate scouts from all over the world through the Internet and through amateur devices that transmites radio waves that can be read by other scouts.
In our school,Maktab Sains PSBS.There is also a scout movement.Maktab Sains PSBS,Troop 1017 was the name given by the Headquarters Of Brunei Scouts. Each week during ccas, these ms scouts would be introduced to variety of activities and knowledge that can be used to their daily lifestyle.Recently,On Saturday Night.22nd May 2010,a number of Maktab Sains PSBS Scouts were invited to join a Night Hike which was held from Bukit Shahbandar to Rimba Secondary School. As i had joined it,it gaved me a whole new experience as we had always hike during daylight. This gave me an experience of how it felt like hiking in pitch black with aids of torchlight where light was necessary."ONES A SCOUT,ALWAYS A SCOUT!"

What is Energy Day Or Week?
it is an amount of time where an organization or government take an action that is aiming on the public to be involved in a variety of activities that is related to reduce the amount of energy usage to use energy provided efficiently.
What has Brunei Darussalam plan for this years Energy Day?
this year is a new change as of Monday,24th May 2010.Brunei Darussalam Petrol Stations are going to sell Fuel at a non-subsidised rate in creating an awareness for people to change their lifestyle of wasting energy easily. We as a country which is blessed with petrol that has been subsidies which means we are buying a much more cheaper fuel rate than most countries. This should be taking in considerate by using it carefully as we might not know when there will be no more oil and gas production. An eSaving SOS Campaign was also initiated by the government to create an environment that actually practice Energy saving in the daily lifestyle.
What is eSaving SOS Campaign?
it is a simple step campaign that is initiated to reduce energy consumption ,they are as follow:-
1) Switch Off Unnecessary Light
what it means is that people are encouraged to switch off their light when leaving a room so you are not wasting energy. If we spend less time leaving the light on,the more energy you are saving by doing that. Also consider in actually just leave at least two lights in the house to be on.If there is a light in the house that people always forget to switch off like when leaving the toilet, you would always leave the light on.Why not consider to put a sticker on it that reminds you to switch it off when exiting the toilet or any other place like the bedroom too.
2) Switch Off Water Heater When Not in Use
It is actually a wastage of energy of keeping the water heater on when you are actually using it on mornings or evenings. Why not actually just switch it on a few minutes before you take a shower.Another way is also by taking shorter hot showers as the longer you use it,the more there is energy wastage. As water heaters take up to 25% of your home's energy use
3) Set Your Air Conditioner Temperature to 24 degrees Celsius or Higher than usual
Whether you have got a high horsepower air conditioner or a low one, when it is at the right temperature. It can actually maximise you energy consumption and increasing your energy savings. To start making a better energy saving, you can increase the air conditioner's thermostat by 1 degree or setting it to 24 degrees which is actually comfortable enough if you would like a moderate cool room.why would you want a cold room when you can make it just right enough so you could enjoy the cool air.
Last but not least,i hope that you all learned something from this post.I hope everyone would take part in saving energy.Start doing something rather than just telling everyone to do it.
